Pocketopia and Catacombs

In July we headed back to Pocketopia to try our hand on the classic steep line Everything and Nothing v5. Matt flashed it, no surprise, and it shut everyone else down that day. Lauren, however, worked out the beta for Shiva Rising v4, and sent it a day later for her first v4!  After bouldering we headed over to the shroomy Catacombs for some exploring and to catch the sunset. Soon the stars and Milky Way came out, and I made my first ever attempts to capture the beauty of our galaxy on film. I was pretty pleased that the photo turned out at all!

Goldenrod

Up on the Sherwin Plateau, at the Pocketopia area, stands the stellar boulder problem Goldenrod, a singular line on immaculate stone. From a cluster of pockets move to a sloping pinch, then make a long move to a tiny obsidian xenolith, then to a one pad mono, before finally getting some better pockets. But it's not quite over as you must make several moves on better pockets with poor feet before finally reaching jugs at the lip, some 14 feet above the soft pumice landing.
